What Courses are Available for Improving Your Skills as a Dentist?

Once you’ve graduated from dental school and started work as a dentist, you could still identify areas for improvement in your provision of dentistry services. This is where going on extra courses can be really worth your while – and, no, they won’t call for nearly as much time or financial outlay as your initial dental school qualification. Below, we draw attention to some great courses for further developing your dentistry skills.

London is calling…

You’ve probably got a long list of boxes to tick in your search for a provider of postgraduate dental training. Naturally, you will want an institution which is well-regarded in this field; however, there is such a broad range of dentistry services to learn about that you could also be eager to find a provider of a similarly broad range of courses.

Now, at this stage, we’d be hard-pressed not to recommend the UCL Eastman Dental Institute. Part of the esteemed University College London, it is Europe’s largest postgraduate dental school – and its courses range from two-year degree programmes to five-day CPD short courses and one-day taster sessions.

We particularly like the Institute’s diplomas in implant dentistry, paediatric dentistry and special care dentistry – ideal for when you want to move into a specialist area of dentistry. There’s also a CPD course for better managing your finances at work.

There are also great courses up in Edinburgh

London is undoubtedly an exciting place in which to spend time studying… as is Edinburgh, the Scottish capital city which is particularly renowned for its awe-inspiring historic architecture and vibrant arts scene. It’s also home to the Edinburgh Dental Institute.

Part of the University of Edinburgh, EDI provides postgraduate Masters degree programmes across a range of dentistry subjects – including primary dental care, prosthodontics, orthodontics, paediatrics and oral surgery. It’s also possible to take EDI’s MSc in Primary Dental Care via online distance learning – the flexibility of which you’re especially likely to appreciate if your current dentistry work keeps your schedule pretty packed.

Whichever of EDI’s courses you take, you will also be able to benefit from international-class dental research. This is because EDI belongs to the University of Edinburgh’s College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, the medical research of which has been given a strong endorsement by the hospital-based clinical subjects panel.

Courses that could give you the luck of the Irish

Considering that we are based in Northern Ireland and can provide free next day delivery of our supplies to dental practices in the Republic of Ireland, it seems proper that we don’t overlook the courses available on the island of Ireland. And, indeed, there’s a very prestigious provider of postgraduate dental courses in the form of Trinity College Dublin.

These courses in the institution’s School of Dental Science include diplomas in conscious sedation, clinical dentistry, clinical dental technology and special care dentistry. Also on offer is a clinical doctorate in dental surgery, the six individual strands of which focus on orthodontics, oral surgery, paediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, periodontology and special care dentistry.
